Cotton & Satin Jackets
Cotton and satin jackets can last longer and look better with proper care and cleaning.
1. Washing:
• Hand washing is recommended for satin, cotton can be machine washed.
• If machine washing, use cold water and a gentle cycle for both fabrics.
• To prevent damage, use a light detergent.
• Turn inside out to protect colors and fragile surfaces.
• To avoid snagging, store the satin jacket in a mesh laundry bag.
• Avoid using powerful detergents or bleach, since these might degrade fibers.
• Don’t wring satin cloth since it will lose its smooth touch.
2. Drying:
• Air drying is preferable hang cotton coats and lay satin jackets flat on a towel.
• Keep jackets in a shaded area to avoid color fading.
• To reduce shrinkage, use a low heat setting when drying cotton.
• Heat can harm the fibers of satin, so never tumble dry it.
3. Ironing:
• For cotton, use a low to medium heat setting; satin requires a very low setting.
• Satin creases are best removed with steam rather than direct contact.
• To protect satin, place a towel between the iron and the fabric.
• Iron inside out to keep both materials in good condition.
• To minimize damage, avoid using extreme heat, especially on satin.
4. Storing:
• Hang on padded or wooden hangers to avoid creases and keep shape.
• To avoid mold and mildew, store in a cool, dry place away from moist or humid regions.
• Use ventilated garment bags to preserve clothing from dust and insects, especially when storing it for an extended period.
5. Stain Removal:
• Blot stains immediately do not rub.
• To remove cotton stains, use a moderate stain remover or a solution of water and vinegar.
• Dab satin with cold water and a light soap, then air dry.
• Always test stain removers in a limited area first.
• Scrubbing satin fabric might destroy its luster.
6. Special Care for Different Types of Cotton Jackets:
• Waxed cotton requires occasional re-waxing to preserve water resistance.
• Denim jackets can be spot-cleaned in between washes to maintain fabric strength.
• Cotton jackets with linings that are delicate or non-washable should be dry cleaned.
Leather Jackets
(Includes Faux and Real Leather)
1. General Care Tips:
• Avoid exposing your leather jacket to rain or dampness for long durations.
• To keep its shape, hang it on a wide, padded hanger. Store it in a cool, dry place.
• Direct sunlight can cause leather to fade and dry.
• Allow your jacket to rest between wears to maintain its structure.
2. Cleaning:
i. For Real Leather:
• To clean real leather, use a slightly moist microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris.
• Use a specialized leather cleaner every few months.
• Never use cleaners containing alcohol, bleach, or ammonia.
• To keep leather from drying out and cracking, apply conditioner every six months.
ii. For Faux Leather:
• For cleaning faux leather, use a soft cloth, light soap, and water.
• Faux leather is less breathable; therefore, excessive moisture might cause peeling.
• Use a vinyl/PU conditioner to retain flexibility and avoid cracking.
3. Dealing With Stains:
• Water stains should be wiped with a dry cloth and allowed to dry naturally.
• Oil stains should be dabbed with cornstarch or baking powder and left to rest for a few hours before brushing off.
• To remove ink marks, simply dab a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol.
4. Preventing Cracks & Peeling:
• Use leather conditioner on a regular basis to maintain it soft and supple.
• Stay away from radiators and dryers.
• Use a PU or faux leather protector. This helps to prevent peeling and cracking.
5. Storing:
• Use a breathable garment bag. Avoid using plastic covers and instead opt for cotton or fabric bags.
• Seasonal Storage For long-term storage, maintain in a cool, dry environment with moisture absorbers (such as silica gel).
Suede Leather Jackets
Suede leather is delicate and needs careful care to keep its softness, texture, and durability.
1. Regular Cleaning:
• To remove dust and debris, brush periodically with a suede brush or a soft-bristled toothbrush.
• Brush carefully in one direction to lift the strands.
• To remove tiny stains or scuffs, use a suede eraser or a clean pencil eraser.
• Lightly steam the jacket to open up the pores and make cleaning simpler, then brush it.
2. Stain Removal:
• To remove water stains, lightly saturate the entire area with a damp cloth before blotting with a dry towel and allowing to air dry.
• For oil or grease stains, apply cornstarch or talcum powder to the stain, let it lie overnight, and then brush away the residue.
• To remove ink stains, dab a small amount of white vinegar or rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball without rubbing.
3. Protection & Storage:
• To preserve the suede from moisture and stains, apply a suede protection spray. Re-apply every few months.
• Avoid water exposure. If your jacket becomes wet, dab it with a dry cloth and let it air dry naturally (never use direct heat).
• Store in a cool, dry area. Use a padded hanger to keep it in shape and cover it with a breathable cloth bag (not plastic) to minimize dust accumulation.
4. Handling & Wear Tips:
• Avoid direct contact with lotions and perfumes as they can stain suede.
• Rotate wear to prevent excessive wear in certain areas.
• Keep away from heat and sunlight, as excessive exposure can dry out and fade the suede.
5. Professional Cleaning:
• Once a year, take your suede jacket to a professional suede cleaner for serious stains or general cleaning.
Wool Jackets
1. Cleaning:
• Use a soft-bristled brush or lint roller on a regular basis.
• Dab tiny stains with a clean cloth soaked in mild detergent or diluted white vinegar.
• Dry clean just as needed, usually once or twice a season.
2. Storage:
• To retain shape, use a strong, broad-shouldered hanger.
• To avoid dust and moths, store in a ventilated garment bag.
• To avoid moth damage, use cedar blocks or lavender sachets.
3. Wrinkle Removal:
• Use a handheld steamer to eliminate wrinkles.
• If ironing is required, use low heat and a pressing cloth.
4. Avoid Overwashing:
• Wool naturally repels dirt, so frequent cleaning is unnecessary.
• To keep it fresh, air it out after each wear.
5. Protection From Moisture:
• Wool can shrink when soaked, so avoid doing so.
• If damp, shake off the excess water and allow it to dry naturally.
6. Repairing & Maintenance:
• To remove pilling, use a fabric shaver or a wool comb.
Parachute Jackets
1. Cleaning:
• Hand washing with mild detergent and lukewarm water is recommended.
• If machine washing is permitted, use a moderate cycle with cold water and store the jacket in a laundry bag.
• Avoid strong chemicals such as bleach.
• To remove minor stains, use a moist cloth and mild soap.
2. Drying:
• Air drying in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight is the best technique to avoid color fade.
• Avoid tumble drying since heat weakens the cloth and causes shrinkage.
3. Storage:
• Hang the jacket rather than folding it to avoid creases.
• A ventilated clothing bag protects the fabric from dust and moisture.
• Keep it in a cool, dry place to avoid mold and mildew growth.
4. Waterproofing & Reproofing:
• If your jacket is water-resistant, use a fabric water repellent spray on a regular basis.
• Avoid over washing, as frequent washing can remove the jacket’s protective coating.
5. Repair & Maintenance:
• Quickly mend tiny tears with a cloth patch or special repair tape. Check zippers and fasteners on a regular basis, keeping them clean and oiled with a little wax or silicone spray to ensure smooth functioning
